Women’s voices are being drowned out in workplaces across the country. Despite being just as capable and committed as men, they’re getting fewer promotions, less sponsorship, and far less recognition. Day after day, their ideas are overlooked, their contributions minimized, and their potential for leadership questioned.

The impact is real—and growing. Women are starting to lean out, stepping back from advancement and opportunities they’ve earned, not because they lack ambition, but because the system repeatedly signals that their voices don’t matter. Companies that fail to truly support them risk losing the talent, insight, and leadership only women can bring to the table.

I hear stories like this all the time on Zoom calls with people around the world. As I share the mission of Building Doors, folks start opening up about inequality they’ve witnessed… and some stories are just too juicy not to share.​

A Big Ten Division One school hired a marketing firm to analyze their departments and figure out how to climb the rankings. After three months of interviews, surveys, and observations, the head of the firm, a middle-aged white man, called everyone into a conference room. The room was full of men…and only two women. The first words out of his mouth? “After careful review we feel the best thing you can do is remove the women..."
