Notice how not one man spoke up.

Not one of the “good ones.”

Not one teammate, not one friend, not one person in that room said, “Hey, cut it out.”​


They laughed.

They sang.

They're headed to the White House to celebrate with fast food and a side of misogyny.​


Was I shocked when I saw the locker room phone call video? No.

Did it make me angry? Yes.

Am I giving up? Not a chance.​


What struck me most about that video was not just what was said, but where respect showed up and where it disappeared.​

Credit given when it is safe, then quietly taken back.​


And it reminded me that this is not unique to hockey. It happens everywhere. In every sport. In every space where women are allowed in, but not fully welcomed.​


The day before that video made its way online, I had what I will call a moment at my daughter’s flag football speed and agility practice.​


My daughter trains with NFL speed and agility trainer. Every Sunday night for an hour and a half, she and her teammates are the only girls in a sea of elite junior high and high school football players. College coaches come to scout. The whole training staff is top shelf.​


This is the first time girls have ever been invited to these Sunday night workouts, and it shows...
